Componon 4/28 Test Update January 2020

On the left is the Schneider Componon 4/28 at full aperture at f/4, and on the right, is the same lens cells in a different iris housing, this time wide-open at f/2.

Componon 28mm f/2 Iris Upgrade

The CPN 4/28 test page has been updated with some new information. One thing I added was another way to upgrade the 4/28 lens iris to f/2. Instead of opening the lens and modifying the iris tab, the new method is a lot easier. The new method is simple and involves simply swapping the front and rear lens cells to a new iris housing.

The Componon 28mm f4 is one of my very first photomacrography lenses I have ever owned and one of my favorites still to this day.

Left to right, the Componon 4/28 cylinder barrel, the all-metal 5-blade iris mode, the 2.8/28 machine vision makro-iris type, on the right, the chrome 15-blade Componon 4/28 and on the far right, the black chrome 4/28 Componon. All of these versions are very good performers for macro photography.

This is the first Polaroid lens I’ve ever tested. The APO correction on this lens was fantastic but the conservative f/5.6 aperture does limit the resolution capability of the lens.
