How to Remove a Scanner Nikkor ED 14-Element Lens from a Nikon 8000 Scanner
Removing a Scanner Nikkor ED lens is a simple project that should take you about 10 minutes and only the only tools you will need is a phillips head screwdriver. The lens is located under the main scanner chassis behind the scanner bottom panel.
At the back of the scanner remove the 11 phillips head fasteners and slide off the scanner top cover by pulling towards you, or to the rear of the scanner.
Now at the front of the scanner remove the four phillips fasteners right behind the front cover two on each side. Now remove the long square plastic actuator arm behind the power switch after removing the small spring that is located towards the scanner front cover.
Now flip the scanner on its side. The lens is located right behind the scanner bottom panel. The bottom panel is really the scanner chassis so you will have to remove a few things including the main scanner unit to get behind it. So remove all the blue fasteners as you seen in the image above. For the 4 dark blue fasteners a long phillips head screwdriver would makes things easier.
Now lift out the black plastic main scanner unit as seen below after disconnecting the wire harness connectors.
Now remove all the fasteners marked with blue, removing the black metal cover and make sure to get the single phillips fastener securing the metal bracket that holds the lens into place. Now lift the lens out. Thats it.
Since Nikon discontinued these scanners years ago there is a used market for spare scanner parts so I would recommend being careful to not damage anything during the lens removal process so you can possibly make a few dollars by selling the spare scanner parts.
